Great win for Going Up

The Hornets' home bred Going Up (Duke of Marmalade - Guilia) hacked up this evening by 6 lengths at Wolverhampton in a mile and six furlongs maiden.  It was great to see, as he has always been a nice staying horse who was a bit unlucky last time when he didn't enjoy the track in a slow run race.  Tonight there was no mistake however under Martin Harley who gave him a decisive and positive ride, making pretty much all and showing them the way home.  Staying is his strong suit as you would expect and he looks to have a bright future for the Hornets (Eamonn Duggan, Paul Smith and Rae Guest).  Well done to Steve Davis and Shaz who led him up.

Nostalgie progressing well

Kirsten Rausing's Nostalgie ran another good race yesterday and continues her progression up the placings. Unfortunately, this time she came up against a 'hot one' but she showed real grit and determination getting her head down at the finish to secure a well fought second.

We are very pleased with her attitude and look forward to seeing her out again in a few weeks - hopefully this time as a winner.

Rachel was featured in this week's Newmarket Journal with her Newmarket Town Plate steed Opera Buff presenting a cheque for the awesome sum of £10,100 to Mark Vaudin and Andrew Simmonds of the Animal Health Trust, the charity that does so much good work to safeguard the health of animals including horses, cats and dogs; of which Rachel is a trustee.  Thank you to all our owners and friends who have been so good as to donate to the cause, it is enormously appreciated.  

California Chrome still shining

Everyone at Chestnut Tree Stables was delighted to see the fabulous California Chrome (right, with Robbie Mills) run so well to be second in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita last night.  We were so pleased for Art and Alan Sherman and Chrome's owners, including Perry and Denise Martin, his breeders, who have taken every step of this fairytale story with him.  

Of course it was a shame not to win but if there ever was a horse who owes no-one anything Chrome is that horse.  Brilliant.

Autumn truly upon us at Newmarket

We've had a few very wintry mornings that have cleared to turn into a beautiful day but until now no real rain.  No rain at Doncaster meant no run for Jane's Memory yesterday in a Listed race where she would surely have had a very good chance.  Right now of course it is lashing it down and has been all day.  That's it for the turf now so all we need to worry about is whether the all weather is riding heavy or fast.  

To put everything into context this week, we had a reminder of the perils of riding racehorses with the news that poor Freddy Tylicki, aged just 30, has been left paralysed after a pile up at Kempton on Monday.  A fund has been set up to support him and his family.  If you would like to support click here gofundme.com/freddie-tylicki
