Salt Whistle Bay shows his potential

We were very pleased with Salt Whistle Bay’s win on Saturday in the 188Bet Handicap at Lingfield.  He showed his true worth and handled the soft ground incredibly well considering he doesn’t enjoy that sort of going.

Silvestre de Sousa kept him prominent throughout the race before gaining the lead over a furlong out and winning comfortably by a length and a half.

Joint owners with Rae, Helen & John Worboys were there to enjoy his success. We hope to see more of the same especially with better ground.

1st win for Defining Moment

Defining Moment is looking very pleased with herself having got her first win yesterday in a 6f Handicap Stakes at Great Yarmouth. She has been working her way up to it, having come 2nd at Leicester last time and did everything very nicely.

David Probert did a text book job on her, keeping her covered until the final furlong and, when asked, this obliging filly picked up, got her nose in front and still had a bit in the tank on the line.

Congratulations to Defining Moment's owner Mr Derek Willis who bred this filly and still owns the Dam, Elfine by Invincible Spirit. Derek has been a long standing owner at Chestnut Tree Stables. He jointly owned with Rae the Group 1 winning 2 year old Serious Attitude (Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes 2008 and Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine Canada in 2010) also trained by Rae.

The Master BBQ'er at work

Rae donned an apron and armed himself with tongs to say thank you to his staff at Chestnut Tree Stables yesterday. As part of Racing Staff Week Rae treated the team to his culinary skills on the BBQ along with some of our owners and past members of staff.

"The stable staff here at Chestnut Tree Stables work very hard to ensure our owners' horses are really well cared for. They work incredibly long hours and take great pride in their work, so it's nice for me to be able to do something to say thank you. I hope they feel they are appreciated because this yard wouldn't run without them" says Rae.

"We maybe a small team here but we are a happy one and we have great owners who are very loyal"

Racing Staff Week is a Racing Welfare initiative that aims to raise awareness amongst all those involved in racing, including followers and supporters, about the passion, dedication and talent required to work with racehorses.

Miss Osier gets the job done

We are thrilled for our owner Peter Saunders who sadly couldn't be there in person to see his horse Miss Osier do the business at Leicester on Saturday. Previously she has been placed twice but this time she took the lead a furlong out and stayed on until the line. She celebrated when she got home with Rae and her groom Charlotte with a glass of fizz!

As good as ever

MIRZA did himself proud on Saturday in the Sprint Stakes (Group 3) at Sandown. Only losing out to the new course record holder 7 years his junior, he was well clear of the rest of the field to finish a strong second. Congratulations to his owners Chris and Lesley who bred Mirza and continue to have so much fun with this charismatic veteran.
