So close!

We had two very closely fought runs this week with Lastmanlastround beaten by a neck at Kempton on Wednesday and Berryessa missing out by a short head at Catterick yesterday.

It was Berryessa's first time on turf and the undulation of the track at Catterick caught her by surprise and unbalanced her. Unfortunately, she could quite gather herself again in time to take the lead.

They were good runs by both horses and not far off the mark but slightly disappointing for our owners Boot Sarratt and Mr & Mrs Perry Martin respectively.

Another win for Lastman

Lastmanlastround held on well to win this seven furlong Handicap at Brighton yesterday especially as the ground was not best suited to him.

This was a good opener to the four year old’s season and his first run since being gelded last year. He was certainly keen early on but David Probert got him settled and tucked in behind the leaders for much of the race. When asked to quicken and take advantage of a gap he duly obliged taking and holding the lead for the final 2 two furlongs.

Unlike his dam, Lastroseofsummer, also previously owned by Mr Eamonn Duggan and trained by Rae, he seems more suited to this distance but would benefit from a bit more give in the ground.

Congratulations to his owners, The Boot Sarratt Racing Syndicate, and Charlie who looks after him.

Twinkle, twinkle little star

Midnightly broke her maiden in style on her second outing last night at Chelmsford. Having got the hang of things at Lingfield a month ago, she dug in and really held her ground, leading from the start and finishing strongly. This home bred of owners Chris and Lesley Mills comes from a family of sprinters, many of which Rae has trained including Group 3 and Listed winner Miss Anabaa. We hope we have a future star in this willing and able little filly.

A very promising start

Midnightly gave a very pleasing performance for her first time out. She was a bit green but got the hang of things to deliver and very convincing second. We anticipate good things from this lovely home bred of Chris and Lesley Mills. She is from a family Rae knows well, having trained the dam and five of her siblings to win, most notably Group 3 and Listed winner Miss Anabaa and Mina, the dam of Listed winner and Ayr Gold Cup second Mina Lisa.

Comfortable win for Martin Racing’s Maiden Filly

Berryessa put in another good performance after her eye-catching debut run last month. She won The 32Red Maiden Stakes at Lingfield comfortably on Saturday. She obviously learnt a lot from her first run and we expect her to keep on improving. Congratulations to connections Mr & Mrs Perry Martin in the US. It’s great to have our first winner for @martinracingUS from the first runner in this syndicate @raeguestracing
