Speedy by name, speedy by nature! Rae picked Rita The Cheetah up at Tattersalls Book 4 Yearling sale last year for 800gns. This was her first ever run today and as expected she ran very green. A slow start put her at the rear for much of the race. However, when she got a clear run she found another gear. An exciting one for the future. Congratulations to Rae and his sisters Jane, Sally and Rita (her namesake) and Andy Muddyman who all share this filly with Rae along with Coatofmanycolours who is still to have her first run.
Another win for Land or Winter

Land of Winter has not be out of the places in his last 6 runs since winning at Southwell last year with two of those runs over hurdles. Yesterday he landed his second win, this time at in a Class 4 Handicap at Goodwood. It ended up being a bit of a 2-horse race with the leaders pulling well ahead in the final furlong to battle it out until the bitter end. Fortunately, Land of Winter, having very briefly lost his lead, dug deep and fought back to win by just half a length. He seems to just keep improving and a fun dual purpose horse for Paul Smith and Rae to own. James Doyle gave him the ideal uncomplicated ride just letting him bowl along.
Californa Chome progeny

We had some exciting news from the US this week. We just heard from Perry & Denise Martin, former owners of California Chrome, that one of his progeny is being sent to Rae for training. She is a lovely looking 2020 filly out of the winning mare Berryessa that Rae trained in 2017/18. The Martins are going to accompany her over from the US. It will be great to see them again. They were last here when California Chrome stayed at Chestnut Tree Stables in the run up to Royal Ascot 2015. They then joined Rae in a 3-horse syndicate; Berryessa being one of the three. We loved having Chrome here and can't wait to welcome Perry, Denise and his filly foal to the yard.

Rae is normally known for getting results with fillies on the flat but this weekend we had ZARRAR, a gelding, running at Plumpton over hurdles. He gave a commanding performance piloted by Nick Scholfield and was either in the lead or contesting it for much of this Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) race. Owner Vicky Markowiak, who also has a homebred filly in training on the flat with Rae, was there to enjoy the moment. Ali who looks after Zarrar at home is pictured here proudly leading him up. A very satisfying Sunday out!
No larking around

Mr Millarcky has definitely found his sweet spot with another win today. That is three on the bounce for this late bloomer. He was back again at Lingfield today and likes to keep the finish nail-bitingly tight. Fortunately, not a dead heat this time but close enough! He quickened and kept on well and hopefully has more to give. Mr Millarcky is entered in the Tattersalls Horses in Training sale at the end of next month but let's see what owner Chris Mills decides now he is clocking up the wins.
