Owners Mornings

To all of our owners - don't forget we have two owners mornings coming up ! 

The first one is this Saturday (12th) and the second one is the following Saturday (19th). These will be informal mornings and a great chance to see your horses and catch up with fellow owners and the team here at Chestnut Tree Stables. You are welcome on both days and there will be refreshments provided (tea/coffee, homemade sausage rolls, cakes plus vegetarian/vegan options). Please try and come, now that the weather has improved it should be a lovely morning !

Introducing Dan !

We would like to introduce everybody to our new Pupil Assistant Trainer, Daniel O'Neill.

Some of you may have met him already, either at The Musketeers/Chestnut Tree owners morning or at the races. Dan's role is to assist Rae with the horses and manage the yard and staff on a daily basis.

He started out working with National Hunt horses and spent several years working for Nigel Twiston-Davies and later Charlie Longsdon (who trains for H.M The Queen). He then transferred to flat racing to work for Godolphin, initially working on the rehabilitation side then later with the horses in pre-training. Godolphin then sent him for a spell in Australia where he had several Group 1 winners under his care. On his return he spent some time working for Saeed Bin Suroor on the hydrotherapy team.

Dan has a wealth of experience in all aspects of racehorse care including yard management, riding racehorses, breaking in yearlings, travelling horses (both domestically and internationally), and bringing horses back from injury. He is already proving to be a great asset to Rae in the short time he has been with us. Please give him a warm welcome when you meet him.

A first win for Jewel In My Crown

There is nothing more satisfying for an owner than to have a homebred winner, so big congratulations to Eamonn Duggan for his Jewel In My  Crown's win at Brighton yesterday.

Jewel In My Crown is a three year old filly by the Eclipse winning Mukhadram. She is out of Eamonn's mare Rosa Grace who Rae also trained to win the Listed Ballymacoll Stakes. We also have her older half sister Rosa Gold, the winner of three races last year. This was Jewel In My Crown's second start of the season, having finished a creditable fourth on her re-appearance at Leicester last month.

She broke smartly from the stalls and held a good position throughout. She was shaken up two furlongs out and finished strongly, drawing away to win by three and a half lengths. Thank you to Callum Shepherd for the ride and well done to Anna who looks after her at home.

Syndicate morning

At the weekend we hosted an owners morning for two of our syndicates. The Chestnut Tree's and The Musketeers are comprised of a mix of owners, some of whom have been with us for a long time and some newer faces. Several of them are in both syndicates.

As restrictions are starting to ease we felt it would be a good opportunity for the members to get to know each other a little better, so a date was set for Saturday 8th May and plans were set in motion. What we HAD NOT planned for was the atrocious weather that rolled in on the day ! Despite the torrential rain that lasted all morning our intrepid owners would not be put off and came along to see their horses.

On arrival, everybody was greeted with a hot drink and fresh pastries after which they watched their horses exercise along the Cambridge Road polytrack. On their return, a tasty brunch was provided by Newmarket Secret Kitchen which was enjoyed by all, owners and staff alike.

It was a great success despite the weather and we are planning more social events throughout the year. Please keep following our news section of the website and our Instagram/Facebook pages for dates once they are confirmed.

A winner for The Musketeers

Aramis Grey got her season well and truly underway last night with a win at Kempton. This Gutaifan filly, owned by The Musketeers syndicate was extremely consistent last season. At Wolverhampton last month she finished second on her seasonal debut over 7f, but showed enough speed to drop back to 6f for this fillies Handicap. Making all from the start, she quickened up two furlongs out and battled bravely to win by three quarters of a length. Thank you to Ben Curtis for the ride and a big well done to all of The Musketeers ! Not forgetting Sajjad Ali who looks after her at home.
