Good win from Show Stealer on debut

Colin Joseph's two year old Showcasing filly, the nicely named Show Stealer, won on her debut at Brighton this evening, belying her inexperience to beat some more experienced horses under David Probert.  The jockey reported that she was very professional, did everything that he asked and would have pulled out more if another horse had come to her.  She was bought from the breeze ups from vendor Paddy Twomey, the breeder of Serious Attitude, by Dwayne Woods on behalf of Colin Joseph.  Well done to everyone concerned.

California Chrome is out of the Prince of Wales’s Stakes

Unfortunately celebrity lodger California Chrome will be unable to run at Royal Ascot tomorrow owing to a bruised foot.  Trainer Art Sherman is disappointed but philosophical ‘we have had the foot x rayed this morning as a precaution but that is fine so there is no harm done.  This is a four or five days sort of issue and it is typical that it would come just a couple of days before the race.  Still, he has a long season ahead and we will go to Ascot tomorrow to relax and enjoy the races.’  Rae Guest said ‘everyone in the yard is bitterly disappointed that Chrome will be unable to run and show the growing group of UK Chromies how good he is.  The horse has been a pleasure to deal with and it is such a shame that the connections’ enterprise and sportsmanship in bringing him over here was not able to be rewarded.’

Vale of Paris makes all

Vale of Paris, a filly bought jointly by Emma O'Gorman and Rae at the sales, made all under apprentice Cam Hardie in the first at Bath yesterday to score her maiden success at the second attempt.

By improving sire Vale of York, she made her debut as a two year-old running green but her seasonal debut as a three year-old yesterday was quite different.  From a prominent draw she broke well under Cam Hardie and made all, running on well the last furlong to repel any challengers.  She has showed plenty of promise at home and it is hoped that she will progress from here.

Congratulations go to Emma O'Gorman who both bought and rode her constantly at home before unfortunately breaking her leg. To Armando who rides her every day since Emma's unfortunate accident and to Farman who led her up.

Vale of Paris was our first turf winner of 2015 and hopefully there is plenty more to come starting with Mirza and Minalisa both tackling listed events today.

California Chrome gallops at Ascot

Alan Sherman and Raul Rodriguez arrived in Newmarket yesterday afternoon to oversee California Chrome's preparation for the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot on 17 June. A racecourse gallop at Ascot was scheduled to try Chrome at racing pace around a right handed bend ridden by Frankie Dettori.  Alan was pleased to see Chrome and said 'He looks great and he worked well at Ascot on Thursday under Frankie Dettori.  We are looking forward to running him'.

Frankie was delighted to ride the Kentucky Derby winner and said: 'the gallop was a good idea as he came into the bend and wondered what was going on, but he is a quick learner, got on the right leg and soon realised what he was being asked to do.  He's in good shape.'  Unfortunately Frankie is set to be claimed by John Gosden for the race itself but Alan and Art are considering other European jockeys at present.  A link to the final stages of the racecourse gallop can be viewed by clicking here

Chrome Update - 27th May

California Chrome's progress continues with the start of Royal Ascot less than three weeks away. Rae is very happy with his work, he has been making use of Newmarket's watered gallop in recent weeks, this gallop runs adjacent to Newmarket's famous Rowley Mile racecourse and is pictured (right) with Robbie Mills on board.

Alan Sherman flies over on the 2nd of June to check on Chrome's progress and the imminent plan is to go to Ascot for a racecourse gallop on the 4th or 5th of June.  Frankie Dettori will ride him in his gallop there as long as his existing commitments allow.

We will endeavour to keep you up to date with when this gallop takes place.
