Khismet off the mark!

Khismet, a two year old well built filly by Kheleyf won at the second time of asking when beating the odds-on favourite at Wolverhampton yesterday evening.

After a promising run first time at Yarmouth, Khismet was settled in third place for most of the race under Cam Hardie and battled hard in the last furlong to get the better of the favourite, eventually running out a 1 1/4 length winner.

Khismet is owned jointly between Dwayne Woods of Brook Stud, Rae and Emma O'Gorman.  This would have been a bitter-sweet success for Emma, as whilst consigning Khismet for the Guineas breeze-up sale, Emma suffered a broken leg that has kept her from riding her since.  Congratulations must go to Emma and Dwayne though for sticking by her and also to Armando Duarte who rides her most days.

New Partnership - Only two shares remaining!

Launch of an exciting new Partnership

We are in the process of setting up a new partnership for racing in 2016 and beyond.

Our previous ventures with the Calm Again and Chestnuts partnerships have produced two crackerjacks with Calm Attitude and Headline News, who between them have won almost £80,000 and nine races.

Three yearlings will be purchased in Autumn 2015.  We will create 4 x 25 per cent interests for the partnership as a whole, which can be split up further between friends/colleagues depending on the level of interest required or preferred.

Costing

1)      £15,000.00 plus VAT per 25% share x 4 shares

2)     £1500.00 per month plus VAT per share for training fees, farrier, all supplements , basic veterinary and UK travel.

Exceptional veterinary and foreign racing including any group/classic entries will be charged at cost or paid directly to the supplier from the Weatherbys account.

The fixed price of £1500.00 per month will be applied to the first two years of the partnership being in operation.  A review at the end of the first season will take place and a decision made at that point as to any changes that need to be made (which horses to keep etc).

Operation

A Weatherbys bank account will opened in the name of the new partnership if required. Payments for deposit for purchase and training fees to be made into the Weatherbys account at the appropriate time.

VAT collection will be undertaken by Weatherbys, which has been proven to be a very straight forward process and particularly useful when recovering VAT on the purchase price of bloodstock.

After an initial deposit into the bank account, VAT refunds on training fees and other direct costs should be sufficient for the operation of the bank account – i.e. covering race entries, heath taxes etc.

Overview

With interests in three horses, the new venture should, in time, provide many opportunities to go racing. We already have definite interest from two existing parties.

If you are interested, call Rae on 07711 301095 to register your interest or further discuss your options

Mirza bids for the hat-trick

Chris and Lesley Mills' globe trotting sprint sensation Mirza is planning to re-tread old steps when returning to Longchamp on Sunday afternoon where he will face eleven rivals in the Qatar Prix Du Petit Couvert a race he has ran for the last two years.

It is a race that both Rae and his owners Chris and Lesley know well, Mirza's mother Millyant also won the race twice so Mirza is bidding to go one better than Mum!

The race is due off at 1pm UK time and will be broadcast live on At The Races (Sky channel 415)

Elsewhere over the weekend Headline News goes in search of black-type when running in the Listed Stand Cup at Chester on Saturday afternoon.  Only her second attempt in listed company, she was recently narrowly denied black-type finishing a short-head fourth at Windsor.  Fingers crossed she can get a bit closer this time!

You can see both horses when we open our doors at Newmarket's Open Day on Sunday 20th September. Visit www.newmarketopenweekend.co.uk to find out more.

Classic Image off the mark

Classic Image, a homebred filly from Dwayne Woods' Brook Stud in Cheveley finally got off the mark at Wolverhampton yesterday evening.

A filly that has always shown a lot of promise at home, finally showed on the track what she does on the gallops most mornings.  Drawn wide in stall ten, under the stewardship of Champion Jockey elect Silvestre De Sousa, she was quickly away and tacked over to the inside rail, making all the running she kicked off of the bend and soon put her rivals in trouble whilst opening up a three length lead that was always comfortably held, eventually winning by one length.

Congratulations go to her owner Mr Li Fung-Lok based in Hong Kong, to Shahzad who looks after her and Sebastian Woods who rides her most days.

Headline News back in the winners enclosure

Headline News, a Peintre Celebre mare took advantage of the softer conditions at Pontefract yesterday when staying on well to win a valuable Class 3 Handicap yesterday afternoon.

Rae and her owners have been patient with her this season as opportunities have been few and far between. Last time out she gave a lot of weight away to younger horses at Newmarket and probably just about needed the run.  Stripped fitter today, she again gave vast amounts of weight to the second and third horse but she stayed on well under Dane O'Neill to record a career best effort.  Rae may now be forced to look for Listed events on softer ground as her handicap mark is bound to go up for this win.

Congratulations must go to the Chestnuts partnership, Derek Willis, Peter Sakal, Val Beeson, Pauline Donald and Lynn Lambert who attended yesterday; also to Shahzad (Bolla) who rides her everyday and took her racing and Hollie who looks after her but was on holiday in Spain!
